The skilled trades are in high demand. Workers with some postsecondary education (industry certifications, trade school, associate’s degree) filled 99% of the 11.5 million jobs created since the low point of the 2010 recession according to the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce. The BayACES program at Hudson’s Bay High School offers a sequence of courses in the building trades that lead to industry certification and preferred status with Northwest Laborers Employers Training Trust (apprenticeship opportunities).
Other ways to learn more about the skilled trades is by joining SkillsUSA. This is an after-school Career & Technical Student Organization offered at our high schools. Participation improves the quality of America’s skilled workforce through a structured program of:
- Technical and professional skills training
SkillsUSA students compete in regional to national competitions in their program area (video, culinary, construction…and much more)!
